I am giving this placing device a two-star rating because of the "enjoyable aspect" (yes, it is addictive and entertaining...though at the identical time - hopefully - a valuable practice device). But sadly there are really a few not-fairly-very good aspects to this item, which honestly would make it a 1-star (at ideal) if not for that enjoyable. Let me clarify...
I ordered this placing device on the strength of four-stars. Yes, some of the critiques were mixed, but I was not place off by various of the negatives. And I decided to go with the rating itself as the deciding factor. The box (a fairly substantial 1!) arrived yesterday afternoon, and the unit was easily set up. Right here is what I skilled:
Initial "glue challenge": The placing surface (which is indeed far better top quality than quite a few I have noticed in retailers) is glued to the black plastic hole/diverter at the far end (see advert image). Well, the gluing job had been partially botched, and the surface was "wrapped" down about the plastic so that it would not lay flat on the floor. The putter stand: It talks about a built in putter stand and back-stop. Well, it does have 1. But it is a single sheet of formed plastic you stick into the base with 3 little plastic fasteners. Honestly, the complete issue looked so low cost and flimsy with that on (and visually distracting frankly), that I took it back off. I have only when putted a ball tough sufficient to even will need the back cease, so this honestly is a pretty useless feature (unless you have small kids who don't know their strength, I suppose...).
The genuine trouble began that initially evening. Just after playing with it for (at most) 30-45 min of putting time (intermittently more than quite a few hours), the electric kick-back device (extremely comparable to what is in stand-alone ball return cups) refused to perform. The piston (which hits the ball) has stuck in the "on" position, rendering it useless. I (very carefully) reset it and tried to play some way more. Inside a handful of minutes, it occurred again. There is a warning in the box about rapid and repetitive action causing premature failure of the mechanism.... so clearly they have had concerns with this part. Nicely, I was putting at a leisurely pace, and certainly I would expect it to stand up to routine cycles by way of the loop (putt, sink putt, kick back, line up, putt.... etc.). I have now gotten quite good at resetting the piston (without hurting myself in the method, given that the trigger is also suitable there), but this honestly is a quite unforgivable top quality flaw in the item.
Lastly, let's get clear about the dimensions: The advert and box clearly say: "Adjustable from three feet to 9 feet". Wrong. The diverter that puts the ball in front of you for the subsequent putt (where the guy in the picture is standing) is at precisely 7.five feet from the cup. There is some space to move the ball back from there, but if you hang the ball on the fairly back edge (which isn't quite practical), you are at 8.5 feet. You can not get to a 9 foot putt unless you commence off the back surface (and hop the ball more than the top edge of the turf itself). This is not a fatal flaw, certainly, but as a potential buyer I want you to be conscious that your longest putt will be in the 7.five-8 foot range.
A lot of of the items mentioned in other evaluations I discovered to be accurate: the plastic is "hollow" and feels quite flimsy. The ball tends to make pretty a lot of noise as it shoots down the track (considering that the plastic is hollow), and the surface came particularly wrinkled from the box and is really difficult to straighten out (I tried the hot iron idea mentioned elsewhere, with limited good results). None of these individually are horrible, but as a total package...
So what is to like? Nicely, the fun element is there, if you like placing the ball into the hole (or missing) and watching it fire back (generally) right to where you began. And I actually hope that practice makes ideal, as this is a excellent way to repeat my placing stroke and try to make it more "automatic".
My general impression is: "low-priced". For the quantity I spent on it, honestly I would anticipate substantially larger good quality and really feel - not to mention flawless operation for rather a lot more than a couple of hours! Other than the kick-back mechanism (which as I have said is problematic at ideal), this item cannot have way more than a handful of dollars worth of plastic and possibly a bit way more in the turf.
The jury is still out on regardless of whether I return this as defective. If I only have to reset the piston a handful of instances per practice session, I will quite possibly preserve it (and hope the $ is worth it in improved brief-putting). If the failure rate of the kick-back mechanism gets worse in the coming days, it will go back for a refund.

OK, I have some poor news and some very good news.
The bad news is the "sticking kick-back piston" challenge was nevertheless pretty evident on day two, and in reality I would say the frequency of it acquiring stuck essentially elevated. It became so bad (each and every handful of putts) that I was on the verge of wrapping the complete factor up and shipping it back for a refund.
But there is fine news!
It seemed to me that the problem with the piston was mechanical (i.e. it was physically gettng stuck in the kick-back device) rather than electrical (i.e. it did not seem that the electomagnets that drive the piston to kick the ball back had been getting stuck in the on posiiton). Right after careful inspection, I decided to apply a Rather compact amount of machine oil to the exposed surface of the piston and cycle it a handful of instances to operate the oil down into the "barrel" along which it travels. BINGO! My son and I have a putting contest going in which we track consecutive putts sunk, and final night he fired off 40 in a row ideal after I did 39 in a row. And the kick-back piston worked flawlessly for all of that! This is SO substantially much more trustworthy than it had been prior to inserting the oil, I am declaring 90+% probability of victory more than this concern. And I now strategy to maintain this device unless the issue resurfaces.
So for those of you experiencing "failed" kickers in which the piston is obtaining stuck, you may well try a Little amount of oil on the piston. Just be very careful not to get overzealous with that oil, simply because: (a) you do not want a reservoir of oil inside that kicker (there are exposed wires in there, outside the barrel you want to make slicker), and (b) who wants oil all more than the golf ball?!
My general 2-star rating stands, based on general flimsiness and the fact on day 1 it failed and required intervention to repair it. But the enjoyable element is there, and I will maintain this as lengthy as the concern does not resurface soon. Besides, 2 days ago I would not have been in a position to sink 39 (or my son sink 40) 7.five foot putts in a row, so it must be getting some improvement influence! And, yes, my son is gloating more than his victory! :)
This 9' putting green really should assist my brief game immensley. The return mechanism works perfectly. I read a few reviews that complain about the folds and seams in the carpet. Even the directions suggest working with a bunch of telephone books to flatten-out the surface. Do not listen to them - A common garment IRON at medium heat with some steam functions perfectly! After 5 minutes there wasn't a ripple to be discovered and now each putt rolls accurate and strait.
Great worth, and the return mechanism tends to make it so hassle-free to get high reps.
